Recently, the Canadian Coast Guard undertook a $50 million project to salvage bunker fuel from the B.G. Zalinski, a vessel that sank in Grenville Channel, on the west coast of Canada, in 1946. The CCG, having recently decided to migrate to the use of pure ICS, asked EmergWest Consulting to provide initial ICS training to both CCG and First Nations representatives, as well as ICS coaching support throughout the duration of the salvage. The highly-successful project included numerous historical firsts, including the use of ICS, the establishment of a Unified Command (including the BC Provincial Government), and the inclusion of both the Gitga'at and Gitxaala First Nations in the Unified Command.
